                                                                              Call for Article Submission

The Brazilian Journal of Occupational Therapy makes public the call for interested parties to submit articles to, if approved, form the Special Thematic Issue: Assistive Technology, Occupation, Daily Life and Participation. The special issue aims to promote critical, scientific and interdisciplinary debate about Assistive Technology as an essential condition for promoting participation, social inclusion and realizing the rights of people with disabilities, in association with the Sustainable Development Goals. Assistive technology constitutes an interdisciplinary and transversal field focused on the development, prescription, implementation and evaluation of products, resources, environmental adjustments, services and processes that increase functionality, autonomy and enable the participation of people with disabilities or reduced mobility in desired occupations, different daily lives and in multiple environments.

Assistive technology, by promoting occupational engagement and social participation, can be used at different stages of the life cycle and in multiple contexts. Therefore, access to adequate and quality assistive technology can mean the difference between enabling or restricting access to education, insertion and retention in work, social participation, independent living and aging with dignity. It is essential to conceive the field of assistive technology as integrated with other sectors, favoring intersectoral actions that promote research, technological development and implementation of evidence-based practices.
